POG Winner - HPI Yunnan Lan Cang Project

Heifer Lancang micro-credit project was started in Banli and Hali Village of Lancang County in 1999. From October, 1999 to June 30 2003, 1,475 families in tow villages have benefited from the project. Up to now, totally they have purchased 5,338 pigs and 160 chickens with the loans. Averagely each family increases its income by 1,000 yuan each year.

828 man and 392 women person / times have received technical training from HPI local project partner. Through training sessions, most farmers have learned the basic skill of how to raise pigs and chicken, which has contributed a lot to the project's success.

There is a group in project village, called Ka Kuo Group. 217 members in this group shared only one well. HPI partners of Lancang project worked with Group members together to build a water pool and get water 5 kilometers away from the village by using water pipe. Since then, each family can get water from the tap. The problem of water shortage was solved with HPI's help.

With the excellent contribution of Passing on the gifts, the project won the "Heifer International Passing-on the Gifts" award in2004.
