The News about Training in Guangdong
From January 8 to 9, 2005, three personnel from HPI Hong Kong’s
fundraising office—Lin Biyao, Wang Wanhua, and Zhong Yizhen—went
together to visit Heifer’s beef cattle program in Liannan Yao Autonomous
County, Guangdong. On this trip they visited farming households and saw
their living and production conditions, and explained to them the source
of the funding that they would soon receive.
On January 9 and March 10, HPI China’s Anhui Program Director Peng
Bin gave Heifer Basics training to a total of 79 households in two villages,
Tangnikeng and Wangdongping. Of the farmers who participated in the training,
35 were women, and they were very enthusiastic, bringing a relaxed and
joyful atmosphere to the training. Both training sessions emphasized “passing
on the gift” and explained in detail Heifer’s concepts of
“Everyone helps me, I help everyone” and “It is better
to teach a person to fish than to give a person a fish.” The program
partners—the Liannan Bureau of Agriculture and the local township
and village leaders—all gave strong support, and they gained a deeper
understanding of Heifer. The two training sessions ended with “Passing
on the gift” games. During the games, the farm households who were
to receive help wore wide smiles on their faces, reflecting the happiness
and good fortune that Heifer is about to bring them!
