Heifer China’s Project Partner: SEE

   Alxa is in the west of Inner Mongolia , and also the largest source of sand storms. Degrading ecologist system aggravates poverty of local farmers and herdsmen, some of whom have been faced with the situation of ecological refugees. 5th June, 2004, Alxa SEE (Society Entrepreneur Evology) Ecological Association was established by nearly 100 famous Chinese entrepreneurs. The vision of SEE is to, starting from Alxa, engage in environmental protection in areas suffering from desertification and at the same time, to make more Chinese entrepreneurs aware of their social and environmental responsibilities.

    Between June and August 2006, SEE and Heifer China found many common goals after exchanging visits and oral agreements were reached. In October, as a potential partner, SEE offered to Heifer China their project proposal and on 29 th December, Heifer HQ approved the HPI-SEE Alxa Integrated Community Development Project. The seemly simple process had significant meaning to both organizations. It would be used as a typical example of an international NGO and a local NGO, or a developmental organization and an environmental organization cooperating and sharing future resources. SEE's strength in building community organizations will provide us with powerful support, while providing an example for cultivating grassroots NGOs in our project areas in Xinjiang.
