HPI china to speak in a panel discussion with BI delegation
The Brookings Institution, a leading think tank in the United States , had a 50 members delegation visited Chongqing on October 16-18, 2006. The delegation was led by its Board Chair John Thornton (former President of Goldman Sachs) and President Strobe Talbott (former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State) and consisted of many trustees who are prominent leaders in business, academics, foundations and NGOs. With recommendation of member at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and National Director of China-MSD HIV/AIDS Partnership, Mr. Chen Taiyong, Director of Heifer China, was invited by Brookings Institution, for representing Heifer Program to speak in a panel discussion with this delegation. Due to schedule conflict, Ms. Cheng Peilin, Director for Communication and Networking of Heifer China , presented the panel on behalf of Chen Taiyong.
The panel was taken place in Chongqing on Oct. 17. Ms. Cheng Peilin presented Heifer China program to the delegation. The presentation and discussion focused on issues regarding China 's poverty alleviation endeavor. Peilin gave 20 minutes presentation on the ground level experience and achievements in poverty alleviation of Heifer China Program, especially its various projects during the past decade. In the panel discussion, the interaction with the delegation group drew attention to poverty challenges in rural China and how government and NGOs can play different roles. Delegation members were impressed by Heifer's achievements in China . They expressed respect and proud for the contribution made by a US-based International organization to China 's poverty alleviation.
