Dayi Today – HPI Rabbit Raising Project Launches, 30 Women Learning Technique

25 th, Zhang Chunxia and other 29 women of Chunming Village happily sat in a classroom of Xuping Rabbit Rearing School and once more became students. It marked the launch of the Xieyuan Women Rabbit Raising Project. Leaders attending the ceremony were from the County Women 's Federation, Rural and Urban Development Bureau, the Bureau of Animal Husbandry and the county government.

Strongly supported by the county government, the Dayi Rabbit Association applied to Heifer China for a rabbit raising project in Dayi, and got approved. The project farmers will get 10-day training on rabbit cage building, rabbit nutrition, growth, feeding, management and veterinarian skills. Training, transportation and accommodation will be sponsored by HPI. After the training, Heifer China will provide each of the project farmers with 4 bucks and 16 does worth over 2,000 yuan (US$ 243). Within one year of receipt of Heifer rabbits, they will pass on the first female rabbit offspring to another needy family as well as the technical skill they have learnt. It was estimated that 955 families will be assisted by passing on the gift within 5 years. Dayi County Rabbit Association will provide technical service to each family and monitor the whole process of pass on.
